What this practice will help you express
This practice will help you talk about things you have just done, information you heard from others, situations where only a limited amount or option is available, and changes in what you become able to do over time. You will apply these functions to everyday situations involving products, appliances, choices, and learning how to use something new.
You will work on describing very recent actions with Vたばかり, reporting information with plain-form そうです, and expressing limitation with しか. You will also practice describing gradual changes in ability or behavior with Vるようになります, such as becoming able to use a product more confidently after repeated practice.
The vocabulary centers on household products and appliances, especially a rice cooker, cups, things that break, product differences, and situations where you are unsure which option to choose. These ideas appear in a scenario about buying and learning to use a new rice cooker, trying its functions, and dealing with small mistakes.
After completing this practice, you should be better able to describe recent purchases and actions, report what you have heard about a product, explain when only limited choices are available, compare products, and talk about gradually becoming able to use something better.
Shadowing Exercise
Summary: A person bought a new rice cooker yesterday and used it for the first time. They were happy with it because it cooks rice quickly, but they accidentally broke a cup while using it. They think they will get better at using the new appliance with more practice.
This exercise complements the shadowing training in the YomiNihongo app.

3. Listening Dictation
Listen carefully to each sentence and transcribe exactly what you hear. Repeat the audio if necessary and pay close attention to pronunciation, particles, and grammar. After finishing, compare your transcription with the original sentence and review any mistakes.
1: 新しい炊飯器を買ったばかりです。
2: この炊飯器では、ケーキが簡単にできるそうです。
3: まだ炊飯機能しか使っていません。
4: 今朝、コップを割ってしまいました。

Then, write your own short Japanese text or dialogue describing the situation.
Try to use the vocabulary and grammar from this lesson, but you may also use other words and grammar you know.
Theme: Traditional Japanese Theater Exhibition on the Weekend
Situation: You and a friend arrange to meet at the station to visit an exhibition about traditional Japanese theater. One of you is already there, while the other has just arrived. Your friend comments that they heard the exhibition is very popular. You bought the tickets online, but you were only able to get one discounted ticket, so the two of you need to buy another one at the ticket counter. Inside the exhibition, there are many people. You take some photos, listen to the explanations through the audio guide, and then talk about what you thought of the culture presented.
Try to use some of these words in your text or dialogue.
