What this practice will help you express
This practice will help you talk about everyday plans, preferences, abilities, knowledge, obligations, and deadlines. You will work on saying where you are going and why, what foods or activities you like, what you understand or know, and what you need to do by a certain time.
You will practice expressing the purpose of movement, describing likes and skills with が, saying whether you understand or know something, and describing characteristics such as whether a school has large classrooms. You will also work on saying who you receive or borrow something from, setting deadlines with までに, and expressing obligations with なければなりません.
The vocabulary and situations focus especially on food, restaurants, lunchtime plans, prices, and returning somewhere on time. The visual writing activity also extends these ideas to choosing a birthday gift for a coworker, discussing what the person likes, going shopping, and deciding when you must return for work.
After completing this practice, you should be better able to discuss simple plans and preferences, describe what you know or understand, talk about receiving or borrowing things, and explain what must be done before a deadline.
Shadowing Exercise
Summary: Two people plan to go to a restaurant near the station for lunch. They talk about foods they like and decide to eat something light. They will go to the restaurant before noon and then return to work in the afternoon.

Then, write your own short Japanese text or dialogue describing the situation.
Try to use the vocabulary and grammar from this lesson, but you may also use other words and grammar you know.
Theme: A gift for a coworker.
Situation: You work at a company and want to buy a gift for a coworker whose birthday is next week. Before the afternoon meeting, you go to the shopping mall with a friend. You talk about what to buy, where to go, what your coworker likes, and what time you need to be back at the office.
Try to use some of these words in your text or dialogue.
